MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes this MRI spine board a good choice for patient transfers directly into the magnet room?

This board is built from non-metallic materials with no ferromagnetic components, so it can be used confidently in MRI Zones III and IV without creating a safety hazard or affecting image quality. Techs like it because it stays stable during log-rolls and patient lifts, even with a full trauma setup. The runners lift the board off the floor just enough to get hands underneath without awkward angles, which matters when you're moving a patient who needs strict spinal alignment.

2. How well does this spine board work with different restraint and strapping systems?

It’s designed to give you options. The molded-in pins accept both loop-end straps and clip-in systems, so departments don’t have to change their existing strap setup just to make it MRI-ready. That flexibility is helpful for hybrid workflows where patients may arrive on EMS-style straps and need to be secured quickly for transport into the MR suite. Because the pins are molded into the board, nothing loosens, rattles, or interferes with X-ray or MRI imaging.

3. Can this board support heavier patients without bending or flexing during transfers?

Yes — the one-piece construction and 550-lb weight capacity mean it holds up under bariatric transfers and long transports without torque or sagging. The oversized handholds help staff keep a balanced grip, even when wearing thicker gloves or working in tight spaces around the MRI table. For sites running high-volume trauma or emergency imaging, the combination of strength, low weight, and easy handling tends to make this board a workhorse in daily use.
