MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The MRI Swing Door Safety Sign is a critical tool for facilities utilizing MRI equipment, designed to ensure effective communication and restricted access to sensitive MRI environments. Made from durable acrylic materials, this sign is engineered to withstand high-traffic usage while maintaining excellent visibility. Its bold lettering and universally recognized safety symbols are optimized to capture attention, offering clear guidance for staff and visitors to minimize risks and prevent unauthorized entry near MRI products.

This specialized safety sign acts as a final barrier, installing seamlessly in the door jamb of a standard 48-inch door and swinging both in and out, always returning to a closed position to reinforce restricted access. Ideal for medical facilities that prioritize compliance with safety protocols, the Safety Stop sign addresses potential hazards by preventing accidental or equipment entry into MRI zones. Customizable to fit most door sizes and available in both Spanish and English, it supports regulatory adherence while enhancing safety measures for patients and personnel operating around MRI equipment.

Note: Door includes non magnetic plastic hinges.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the MRI Swing Door Safety Sign help control access to restricted MRI zones?

This swinging sign acts as a visual and physical reminder at the doorway leading toward restricted areas. It automatically returns to a closed position, which helps prevent accidental entry by visitors, housekeeping, or staff unfamiliar with MRI safety rules. Many facilities use it as a final checkpoint before Zone 4 to keep non-approved items and personnel from moving toward the magnet room.

2. Is this MRI safety sign durable enough for high-traffic hospital environments?

Yes. The sign is built from rigid acrylic and mounted on non-magnetic plastic hinges, so it holds up well in doorways that see constant use. The surface is smooth and easy to clean, and it tolerates routine disinfecting without fading or cracking—important for MRI suites that sanitize frequently throughout the day.

3. Will this swing-style safety sign fit my MRI room doorway, and do you offer other sizes?

The standard model installs directly into a 48-inch door jamb and includes the needed hinges for a straightforward setup. If your MRI room has a wider or narrower doorway, custom sizing is available so the sign fits securely and maintains proper visibility. It’s also offered in English and Spanish, which helps facilities meet communication and compliance needs.
