MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can this MRI table pad kit be used across different system generations from Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba?

Yes. The pads are designed to fit the table geometry and patient support layouts found on most Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba MRI systems — including older low- and mid-field units. Because the foam and cover materials are fully non-magnetic and non-conductive, the kit performs safely and consistently across scanner models without interfering with coils or imaging performance.

2. How does this pad set hold up to frequent cleaning and disinfection?

The reinforced nylon cover is engineered for high-turnover MRI environments. It withstands daily cleaning with standard hospital disinfectants — just avoid bleach-based products, which can degrade nylon over time. The seams are sealed to prevent fluid penetration, and the anti-microbial surface helps maintain hygiene even under continuous patient use.

3. Can individual pads be replaced or reordered separately?

Yes. Facilities can order replacement pads individually if one becomes worn or damaged. MRI Med maintains consistent sizing across production runs, so replacements will fit your existing setup without gaps or uneven transitions. This flexibility helps extend the life of the full kit and control replacement costs.

4. Do the pads affect table calibration or interfere with patient positioning accessories?

No. Each pad maintains uniform thickness and density, allowing proper table calibration and use with positioning wedges, coils, and supports. The low-profile design ensures the patient remains at the correct imaging height, and the foam compresses evenly under load to preserve isocenter alignment.

5. What’s the expected service life of these pads under routine MRI use?

With daily clinical use and proper cleaning, facilities typically see several years of reliable service before replacement is needed. The viscoelastic foam retains its structure well, and the nylon cover resists wear from friction and disinfectant exposure. Periodic inspection for surface wear or seam damage is recommended as part of routine MRI suite maintenance.
