MR Conditional What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The MRI Tested Fire Extinguisher is an indispensable safety solution, expertly engineered for environments housing MRI equipment. This durable and efficient device is optimized to perform in facilities with MRI products, ensuring exceptional performance and adherence to rigorous safety standards. Specially designed as a rechargeable extinguisher, it provides long-term cost efficiency while effectively addressing Class B and Class C fires, including those caused by flammable liquids and electrical equipment. Its use of carbon dioxide, discharged as a white cloud, quickly smothers fires by eliminating oxygen, making it a clean, non-conductive, odorless, and non-contaminating option for sensitive environments.

Designed for hospitals, imaging centers, and facilities handling advanced MRI equipment, this CO2 fire extinguisher is an essential part of any safety protocol. Supported by a reassuring 5-year warranty, it delivers unparalleled reliability and peace of mind. The MRI Tested Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguisher represents a vital choice for maintaining safety standards while preserving the integrity of equipment and ensuring operational efficiency in critical care and diagnostic settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does it mean that this fire extinguisher is tested for MRI use, and where can it be safely placed?

This extinguisher is MR Conditional up to 11 Tesla, which means it has been independently tested and confirmed safe to store and operate in specific MRI environments under stated conditions. Facilities typically place it in Zone III or immediately outside Zone IV, where fast access matters but magnet safety must still be protected. Its aluminum cylinder and non-magnetic valve construction keep it stable near high-field systems, giving your team a compliant fire-suppression option without risking magnetic attraction or equipment damage.

2. How effective is this extinguisher for fires involving MRI equipment or electrical components?

This model carries a 5B:C rating, making it a strong choice for flammable liquid fires (Class B) and electrical hazards (Class C)—the two fire types most relevant in MRI suites, control rooms, and equipment spaces. Because it uses clean CO₂, it smothers flames without leaving residue, moisture, or conductive material behind. That makes it especially useful around consoles, gradient cabinets, UPS systems, and other electronics you can’t afford to contaminate or corrode.

3. Why choose a rechargeable CO₂ extinguisher for an MRI department instead of a disposable model?

Rechargeable CO₂ units are preferred in hospitals and imaging centers because they’re long-lasting, cost-efficient, and easier to maintain within a safety program. This extinguisher’s rust-free aluminum cylinder, all-metal valve, and ANSI/UL-certified construction are built for repeated service cycles, not one-time use. That means it’s cheaper to keep in compliance over the years and more reliable during inspections. For MRI environments where equipment integrity is critical and downtime is costly, the ability to recharge instead of replace is a meaningful advantage.
