MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The MRI TMJ Wedge is a purpose-built tool designed to improve imaging precision in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) examinations. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this essential piece of MRI equipment ensures accurate positioning of the TMJ area, promoting consistent imaging outcomes. The wedge is specifically engineered to prioritize patient comfort and stability during procedures, making it an indispensable asset in clinical practices aiming for high-quality diagnostic results. Its innovative design allows incremental jaw positioning in 4mm steps, accommodating up to a total opening of 40mm across eight adjustments, seamlessly supporting both routine and specialized clinical needs.

Packaged conveniently in a box of 24, these single-use wedges are disposable after each procedure, maintaining hygiene standards while streamlining operations. The ease of use further enhances patient compliance, providing a hassle-free imaging experience for both patients and practitioners. A valuable addition to your MRI products inventory, the MRI TMJ Wedge optimizes efficiency and clinical accuracy, making it a reliable choice for modern MRI practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can these MRI TMJ wedges be used safely in the magnet, and what is their MR safety status?

Yes. Each wedge is labeled MR Conditional for use up to 3T, which means they can be placed directly with the patient during TMJ imaging under the specified conditions. They’re made from non-metallic, non-conductive materials, so they remain stable in the magnetic field and won’t interfere with jaw positioning, coils, or image quality. Because they’re single-use, they offer consistent performance without the wear or variability you see in reusable devices.

2. How do these TMJ wedges help improve image quality during TMJ MRI exams?

The wedge is designed to give predictable, incremental jaw opening in 4 mm steps, allowing you to position the mandible precisely every time. That consistency matters for TMJ protocols where alignment affects visualization of the joint space, disc displacement, and dynamic motion sequences. Techs like them because patients tolerate them well, and radiologists appreciate that the repeatable spacing reduces motion and keeps the exam standardized from series to series.

3. Why choose disposable TMJ wedges instead of reusable positioning tools?

Disposable wedges solve a few common problems in TMJ imaging. There’s no reprocessing, no risk of cross-contamination, and no guessing whether a reusable wedge has softened or deformed over time. A fresh wedge for every patient means the material properties and the step increments are always the same. Facilities that run a high volume of TMJ studies often prefer the boxed 24-pack because it keeps workflow fast, predictable, and compliant with infection-control policies.
