MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

An MRI Zone II sign is a vital component of MRI facility safety protocols, clearly marking the transition area that serves as the controlled entry point to the MRI suite. This zone is specifically designated for educating and screening patients and staff before they enter the restricted zones, thereby reducing risks associated with the use of MRI equipment and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. Properly designed MRI Zone II signs ensure effective access management while supporting the seamless workflow required in sensitive medical environments.

Crafted from high-durability rigid plastic, our MRI Zone II signs are engineered to withstand the demanding conditions of both indoor and outdoor medical facilities. Featuring high-contrast text for enhanced visibility, these 8x10-inch signs provide clear instructions and information to personnel, helping maintain safety and order. With a fully adhesive backing for easy installation, these signs are a practical and reliable solution for managing access and supporting safety protocols in areas containing advanced MRI products

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does an MRI Zone II sign indicate, and why is it important for MRI access control?

Zone II is the supervised screening area where MRI staff verify patient history, check for implants, and control movement toward Zones III and IV. A clearly labeled Zone II sign helps facilities follow the ACR 4-zone model, reduce unscreened entry, and keep the flow of patients and visitors organized. It’s one of the easiest ways to strengthen MRI safety communication and keep your controlled areas consistent.

2. Is this MRI Zone II sign durable enough for high-traffic screening spaces?

Yes. The sign is made from rigid, long-life plastic designed to handle constant foot traffic, daily disinfecting, and temperature changes common around MRI prep areas. It won’t fade or crack, and the high-contrast text stays easy to read from a distance, which helps staff maintain visibility and reinforce screening procedures.

3. How do you install the MRI Zone II sign, and will the adhesive backing hold over time?

Installation takes seconds—just peel and apply to a clean wall or door at your Zone II checkpoint. The full-adhesive backing forms a secure bond that holds up well through cleaning and routine traffic. Facilities use this style because it stays firmly in place and makes it simple to standardize MRI zone signage across the suite.
