MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MRI safety status of the Multipad Research Kit?

The Multipad Research Kit is MR Conditional. It’s been evaluated for use in MRI environments up to 3 Tesla when used as intended. All components are built with non-ferromagnetic materials and can safely be used within the bore during imaging. Each kit is engineered and quality-checked in California, USA, following ASTM F2503 labeling and MR safety standards.

Can the Multipad Research Kit be used inside the MRI bore during scanning?

Yes. The kit is designed for in-bore use during active scanning and offers reliable immobilization in all three planes. The non-conductive, non-magnetic design allows use near the magnet bore with both 1.5 T and 3 T scanners. It works seamlessly with research-grade coils and fMRI accessories commonly found in imaging centers across the U.S.

What materials are used, and how should the pads be cleaned between studies?

Each Multipad component is made from soft, non-magnetic polyurethane and medical-grade polymers. They’re durable, flexible, and easy to maintain. Facilities can use the included sanitary covers or approved disposable barriers. Between scans, simply wipe with mild hospital-grade disinfectants or alcohol-based cleaners safe for polymers. The pads are built to handle high-volume use in American MRI research facilities.

What’s included in the Multipad Research Kit, and how is it configured for different studies?

Every kit includes:

  • Multipad Bendy, Multipad Ear, and Multipad Slim components
  • Sanitary Covers
  • Handpump with Gauge, Connectors, Tubes, and Hose Clamps

This flexible setup lets U.S. imaging teams tailor positioning for various protocols and coils. The air-inflated pads adjust easily to support different anatomies, helping reduce motion and improve image quality across research studies.

How quickly can the Multipad Research Kit ship, and is it returnable?

Most kits ship nationwide within 48 hours for stocked items (Monday–Friday, Pacific Time). Orders dispatch from our Petaluma, California facility via UPS, FedEx, or freight. Returns are accepted within 30 days of shipment for unused items in original packaging, with prior approval. Standard restocking fees may apply; report any shipping damage within 48 hours of delivery.
