MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MRI Multipad Slim used for during scans?

The Multipad Slim is designed to support and stabilize patients during MRI scans, especially in areas where space is limited or a thinner positioning pad is preferred. It helps reduce motion artifacts, distribute pressure evenly, and increase patient comfort throughout the exam. Its slim design makes it ideal for use in tight coil spaces or when fine-tuning patient alignment is critical for image accuracy.

Is the Multipad Slim MR Safe for use inside the MRI room?

Yes. The Multipad Slim is MR Safe in accordance with ASTM F2503 standards. It’s made from non-metallic, non-conductive materials with no ferromagnetic components, so it can safely be used inside the MRI bore and in all MRI zones, including Zone IV. It will not interfere with imaging performance or safety systems.

How does the air adjustment feature improve positioning accuracy?

The Multipad Slim includes a manual hand pump and air valve, allowing technologists to easily control firmness. By adjusting air pressure, you can create precise, comfortable support under the head, spine, extremities, or coil areas. This flexibility helps maintain consistent patient positioning, minimizing the need for repeat scans due to movement or misalignment.

Can the Multipad Slim be reused for multiple patients?

Yes. The Multipad Slim is suitable for multi-patient use when properly cleaned between exams. The surface materials are durable and can be disinfected with standard hospital-grade cleaning solutions, meeting infection control protocols for MRI departments. This makes it a reliable, long-lasting positioning aid for high-volume imaging centers.

What are the size and setup details for the Multipad Slim?

The Multipad Slim measures 6.5 inches long by 3.5 inches wide, with an adjustable thickness from 0.4 to 1.2 inches depending on inflation level. It arrives ready to use—no assembly required. Simply place it under the patient, use the hand pump to adjust support, and proceed with the scan. It’s lightweight, easy to position, and designed for everyday MRI suite use.
