MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Multipad Standard used for in MRI scans?

The Multipad Standard is designed to support and stabilize patients during MRI exams, helping reduce motion and improve image quality. It distributes pressure evenly and adapts to different body areas, keeping patients comfortable and still throughout the scan. This makes it a practical tool for both patient comfort and accurate imaging results in day-to-day MRI operations.

Is the Multipad Standard MR Safe for use inside the MRI suite?

Yes. The Multipad Standard is MR Safe according to ASTM F2503 standards. It’s made entirely of non-metallic, non-conductive materials, meaning it has no known hazards in any MRI environment, including the bore itself. It can be safely used in all MRI zones, including Zone IV, without risk of interference or magnetic attraction.

How does the Multipad’s adjustable air pressure system work?

The Multipad includes a manual hand pump and air valve that let you easily adjust the pad’s firmness. You can inflate it to provide extra stability for a specific body area or release air for a softer fit, depending on the patient’s needs. This quick adjustability helps technologists fine-tune positioning on the fly for a wide range of exams.

Can the Multipad Standard be used for multiple patients?

Yes. The Multipad Standard is suitable for multi-patient use when properly sanitized between exams. The surface materials are designed for easy cleaning with approved non-abrasive disinfectants, making it a reliable, reusable positioning aid that meets infection control standards in busy imaging departments.

What are the dimensions and setup requirements for the Multipad Standard?

The Multipad measures 6.5 inches long by 2.4 inches wide, with a variable thickness from 0.8 to 2 inches depending on inflation. It requires no assembly or special setup — simply position it where extra support is needed, inflate to the desired firmness, and begin the scan. Like all MRI Med products, it’s engineered for safe, efficient use in MRI environments and ships ready to use.
