MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why would an MRI department use a dedicated wall hanger for patient transfer boards?

Most MRI teams install a wall hanger because it keeps transfer boards off the floor, out of the way, and easy to grab during a busy day of patient transfers. When boards have a consistent storage point in Zone II or Zone III, techs spend less time searching for equipment and more time focusing on the scan workflow. It also helps boards dry fully after cleaning, which protects the material and keeps them in better shape long-term.

2. Is this wall hanger made from materials that are safe to keep in MRI Zones II and III?

Yes. It’s built from high-density polyethylene and includes non-magnetic brass mounting screws, so it won’t introduce ferromagnetic risk in MRI work areas. Because it contains no steel hardware, facilities can mount it near their transfer carts, patient prep stations, or alongside stretcher parking areas without worrying about magnetic attraction or unintended movement.

3. Will this wall hanger fit the transfer boards we already use in our MRI suite?

The design works with most standard-width transfer boards used in MRI, CT, and general radiology settings. Facilities typically install two or more hangers side-by-side when storing larger boards or multiple units. If your team uses oversized bariatric boards or custom boards, the small footprint (0.375”W × 5”H × 2.25”D) makes it easy to mount additional hangers to support the board’s weight and shape securely.
