MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the PCS MRI Pad Kit used for?

This three-piece MRI pad kit is designed to improve patient comfort and stability on MRI tables during scans. It supports even weight distribution and helps reduce motion artifacts that can compromise image quality. The set includes two flat pads and one knee wedge, giving technologists flexibility for different patient sizes and scan types across Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba MRI systems.

2. Is the PCS MRI Pad Kit safe to use inside the MRI room during active scanning?

Yes. The pads are made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and can safely remain in the MRI environment throughout imaging. They are designed to perform without distorting magnetic fields or introducing artifacts, allowing consistent image quality across all supported MRI systems.

3. Can this MRI Pad Kit be used with any MRI system or only Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba models?

This kit is engineered for precise compatibility with Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba MRI tables. The dimensions and foam density are matched to these platforms for optimal patient support and system fit. While some facilities adapt these pads for other systems, using the correct model ensures accurate alignment and best imaging performance.

4. How should the PCS MRI Pad Kit be cleaned and maintained?

The antimicrobial nylon covers are easy to disinfect using standard hospital cleaners (avoid bleach). The sealed seams prevent fluid penetration, making the pads resistant to stains and odor. Routine cleaning between scans helps maintain hygiene and extends the pad’s service life, which is especially valuable in high-turnover imaging suites.

5. How durable is this MRI Pad Kit for everyday clinical use?

Each pad is built for long-term reliability with reinforced nylon seams and a viscoelastic foam core that retains its shape over years of use. The construction resists flattening and tearing even after repeated cleaning cycles. Many MRI departments keep these pads in daily use for years, relying on their consistent comfort and durability to support patient positioning and workflow efficiency.
