MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Engineered specifically for use in Magnetic Resonance environments, the sensors features a fiber optic sensor and cable design that eliminates radio frequency (RF) burns and image artifacts.

Available in two sizes for adult/pediatric patients and infants/small children, these sensors support spot-check or continuous monitoring of arterial oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and pulse rate in MR settings.

1. Are the Pulse Oximeter Sensors safe for use inside the MRI room?

Yes. These sensors are MR Conditional, tested for safe use in MRI environments up to 3 Tesla. When used with the MRI Med ME-110 Pulse Oximeter, they allow continuous oxygen saturation and pulse monitoring directly in the magnet room (Zones III and IV) under approved MRI conditions.

3. Can these sensors be used for both spot-check and continuous MRI monitoring?

Yes. The sensors support both spot-check and continuous SpO₂ monitoring when connected to the MRI Med ME-110 Pulse Oximeter. Many facilities use them for continuous monitoring during sedation or anesthesia, and for spot checks during shorter scans. The optical design maintains stable, accurate readings even when the magnet is actively scanning.

4. Are the sensors compatible with other MRI monitoring systems besides the ME-110?

These sensors are designed specifically for the MRI Med ME-110 Pulse Oximeter, ensuring accurate calibration and signal quality. Because they use a proprietary optical interface, they’re not intended for cross-use with other oximetry systems.
