MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Rectangle Kit designed for use in MRI environments?

Yes. The Rectangle Kit is made from non-metallic, non-conductive materials suitable for use in MRI Zones III and IV. It can safely remain in the scan room without affecting image quality. As with all MRI Med positioning aids, facilities should confirm product labeling to verify the kit’s MR Conditional status and approved field strength, typically 1.5 T or 3 T.

2. What’s included in the Rectangle Kit, and how is it used?

This 12-piece kit contains rectangular foam blocks in four graduated thicknesses—0.5”, 1”, 1.5”, and 2”—providing precise support options for MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine procedures. The variety of sizes allows technologists to fine-tune positioning, maintain alignment, and enhance comfort during longer scans or specialized protocols.

3. How does the Rectangle Kit improve patient comfort and imaging consistency?

The pressure-relief foam design helps minimize patient discomfort and motion, especially around bony areas. Stable positioning leads to clearer, more repeatable images, while the lightweight construction makes it easy for staff to reposition between patients without workflow delays.

4

. How does the Rectangle Kit compare to other MRI positioning aids like wedges or multipad sets?

The Rectangle Kit offers flat, stackable support for precise height and angle adjustments, making it ideal for custom setups and smaller scan regions. Wedges create angled elevation, while multipad sets contour to complex anatomy. Many facilities keep the Rectangle Kit on hand to complement larger positioning systems and improve day-to-day flexibility.
