MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes this red and white vinyl tape a good choice for marking MRI safety zones?

Facilities use this tape because the high-contrast striping is easy to see from a distance, even in dim rooms or during fast turnovers. The extra-thick vinyl gives it more durability than standard floor tape, so it holds up to foot traffic, equipment wheels, and daily cleaning. It’s a reliable way to mark controlled access points, equipment boundaries, walk paths, and no-entry areas around MRI systems.

2. Can this heavy-duty tape withstand hospital disinfectants and constant cleaning?

Yes. The over-laminated 8.8-mil construction is designed for wipe-downs, mopping, and routine hospital disinfectants without fading or peeling. It resists dirt and stains better than basic floor tape, which helps keep zone markings readable and professional-looking. That makes it ideal for MRI suites where floors get cleaned multiple times per day.

3. Is this vinyl tape safe to use around MRI equipment and in magnet-controlled areas?

It is. This tape uses non-metallic, non-conductive materials, so it can be applied directly in MRI rooms—on floors, walls, carts, or equipment boundaries—without posing a risk in the magnetic field. It’s commonly used to reinforce MRI zone safety practices, especially in busy environments where clear visual cues help prevent the wrong equipment from entering the room.
