MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Head and Neck Rest approved for use in MRI environments?

Yes. The Head and Neck Rest is made from non-conductive, non-metallic materials suitable for use in MRI Zones III and IV. It can remain in the scan room during imaging without affecting magnetic field integrity or image quality. Always check the product labeling to confirm it is MR Conditional, and verify proper use at the approved 1.5 T or 3 T field strengths.

2. How does the Head and Neck Rest help improve scan accuracy?

This rest keeps the head and cervical spine properly aligned, which helps reduce motion artifacts and improves imaging precision. Its ergonomic design minimizes strain on the neck and shoulders, promoting comfort during longer scans. Consistent positioning translates into clearer, more repeatable diagnostic images across MRI, CT, and Nuclear Medicine studies.

3. What imaging modalities can this positioning aid be used with?

The Head and Neck Rest is a versatile positioning tool suitable for MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine. It’s lightweight, easy to reposition, and designed to integrate smoothly with existing equipment. Many imaging centers use it across multiple departments to standardize patient support and maintain consistent image quality.

4. How does the Head and Neck Rest differ from standard head supports?

Unlike flat pads or generic cushions, this rest is angled and contoured to support both the skull and cervical spine simultaneously. It’s designed to reduce pressure points while maintaining neutral head alignment—ideal for neurological scans, therapy positioning, or trauma imaging. It’s a dependable choice for facilities prioritizing patient comfort and consistent, high-quality imaging.
