MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Sat Pad 8 Channel Breast Kit approved for use in MRI scanner rooms?

Yes. The Sat Pad 8 Channel Breast Kit is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use in MRI Zones III and IV, including 1.5T and 3T environments. It’s designed for placement inside the bore during scanning and will not interfere with magnetic field uniformity or signal quality.

2. How does this kit improve image quality in breast MRI?

This pad minimizes air-tissue interface distortions that can degrade signal and uniformity in breast imaging. The perfluorocarbon-filled design closely replicates the magnetic properties of human tissue, allowing for clearer, more uniform images and improved diagnostic confidence, especially in high-resolution and contrast-enhanced studies.

3. Is the 8 Channel Breast Kit compatible with standard breast coils?

Yes. It’s specifically designed for 8-channel breast MRI systems and integrates seamlessly with most major coil configurations. The pad’s precise dimensions and cutouts help maintain optimal patient positioning, reduce motion, and ensure reliable coil performance across a range of imaging protocols.

4. What cleaning process is recommended for the Sat Pad Breast Kit?

Clean the pad after each patient use, using hospital-approved disinfectants, including alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium cleaners. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, or abrasives that could damage the surface. Always store the pad flat in a clean, dry area to maintain its shape and performance.

5. What are the size and durability details of this MRI positioning accessory?

The pad measures 18" L × 11.5" W × 2.5" H with center cutouts of 5" W × 6.5" H, sized to support standard breast coil systems. Built for daily clinical use, it’s made from robust, non-magnetic materials and includes a 3-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.
