MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Sat Pad Ankle Kit be used during active MRI scanning?

Yes. The Sat Pad Accessory Ankle Kit is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use within MRI Zones III and IV, including 1.5T and 3T environments. It’s designed to stay in place during imaging without creating distortion or affecting the magnetic field.

2. How does the Ankle Kit improve MRI image quality?

The pad helps correct air-tissue interface distortions that often appear in extremity scans. Filled with perfluorocarbon fluid that matches the magnetic properties of human tissue, it enhances signal uniformity, reduces motion artifacts, and supports sharper, more consistent imaging results.

3. What makes the Ankle Kit effective for patient positioning?

This accessory provides stable, ergonomic support around the ankle and lower leg, keeping patients comfortable and reducing motion during scanning. By maintaining consistent positioning, it helps technologists capture accurate, reproducible diagnostic images while minimizing rescans.

4. What’s the best way to clean and maintain the pad?

Clean the pad with approved hospital-grade disinfectants such as alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium solutions after each use. Avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners. Store it flat in a cool, dry area to prevent deformation and ensure reliable long-term performance.

5. What are the size and durability details for the Ankle Kit?

The pad measures 10" L × 2.5" W × 10.5" H and is constructed from durable, non-magnetic materials suitable for daily use in MRI suites. It includes a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects, ensuring dependable use and value for facilities handling routine and high-volume imaging.
