MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Sat Pad Back/Abdomen Kit be used inside the MRI scanner room?

Yes. The Sat Pad Accessory Back/Abdomen Kit is built from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use within MRI Zones III and IV, including 1.5T and 3T systems. It’s designed to remain in place during active scanning without introducing artifacts or affecting magnetic field uniformity.

2. What is the purpose of the Back/Abdomen Kit in MRI imaging?

This pad is used to improve image quality and patient comfort during scans of the spine, abdomen, or torso. It helps eliminate air-tissue interface distortions and minimizes motion artifacts, ensuring more accurate, consistent diagnostic results—especially in longer or high-resolution studies.

3. How does the perfluorocarbon filling enhance MRI performance?

Each pad contains perfluorocarbon fluid, which matches the magnetic properties of human tissue. This reduces field inhomogeneity and improves signal uniformity, allowing technologists to achieve clearer images with fewer artifacts and less need for rescans.

4. What are the recommended cleaning and maintenance practices?

Wipe the pad after each use with hospital-approved disinfectants such as alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium solutions. Avoid bleach or abrasive cleaners. Store the pad flat in a cool, dry area to maintain shape and performance. Regular care ensures reliable use over years of clinical operation.

5. What are the dimensions and durability details of the Back/Abdomen Kit?

The pad measures 20" L × 14.5" H × 0.75" D and is designed for everyday use in busy MRI environments. Constructed from durable, long-lasting materials, it includes a 3-year warranty that supports dependable performance and extended product life.
