MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Sat Pad Neck Kit designed for safe use in MRI environments?

Yes. The Sat Pad Accessory Neck Kit is built from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use in MRI Zones III and IV, including scans performed at 1.5T and 3T. It’s engineered to stay stable in the magnetic field and maintain image integrity during active scanning.

2. What is the main purpose of the Sat Pad Neck Kit in MRI imaging?

This pad supports precise cervical and neck positioning during MRI exams, helping improve image quality by reducing air-tissue interface distortions. It also enhances patient comfort, minimizes motion artifacts, and allows technologists to achieve consistent positioning across multiple scans.

3. How does the perfluorocarbon fluid inside the Sat Pad improve image quality?

The perfluorocarbon fluid inside the pad mirrors the magnetic properties of soft tissue, reducing field inhomogeneities near the skin surface. This helps create more uniform signal intensity and reduces distortion, especially in detailed neck and upper spine imaging sequences.

4. How should the Sat Pad be cleaned and stored between uses?

Clean the pad after each use using hospital-approved disinfectants such as alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium solutions. Avoid bleach, harsh solvents, or abrasives that can degrade the material. Store flat in a cool, dry location to maintain its shape and performance over time.

5. What are the specifications and durability features of this MRI accessory?

The Sat Pad Neck Kit measures 20.5" L × 4.5" W × 0.75" H and is constructed for long-term clinical use. It’s covered by a 3-year warranty, ensuring reliability for facilities performing routine neck and cervical MRI studies.
