MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Sat Pad Shoulder Kit be used inside the MRI scanner room?

Yes. The Sat Pad Accessory Shoulder Kit is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use within MRI Zones III and IV, including 1.5T and 3T systems. It’s designed to remain in the bore during scanning without creating artifacts or interfering with magnetic field homogeneity.

2. How does the Shoulder Kit improve MRI image quality?

This pad minimizes air-tissue interface distortions that often occur in shoulder imaging. By using perfluorocarbon fluid that closely mimics the magnetic properties of human tissue, it helps create a more uniform signal and reduces motion artifacts, resulting in sharper, more reliable diagnostic images.

3. What benefits does the Shoulder Kit provide for patient positioning?

The Shoulder Kit helps maintain stable and comfortable positioning for patients during shoulder and upper arm MRI scans. Its contoured shape supports the natural anatomy of the shoulder, reducing strain and minimizing patient movement—key factors for obtaining consistent, high-quality images.

4. How should the Sat Pad Shoulder Kit be cleaned and maintained?

Clean the pad after each use with approved hospital-grade disinfectants, such as alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium cleaners. Avoid using bleach or strong solvents. Pads should be stored flat in a dry, temperature-controlled space to preserve their structure and performance over time.

5. What are the size and durability details for the Shoulder Kit?

Each pad measures 17" L × 8.5" W × 0.75" H and is built from durable, long-lasting materials suited for daily MRI suite use. The Shoulder Kit includes a 3-year warranty covering material and manufacturing defects, ensuring long-term reliability in high-volume imaging departments.
