MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Sat Pad Wrist Kit be used safely in MRI environments?

Yes. The Sat Pad Accessory Wrist Kit is built from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use within MRI Zones III and IV, including 1.5T and 3T scanners. It can remain in place during active scanning without affecting image quality or magnetic field uniformity.

2. How does the Wrist Kit improve MRI image quality?

This pad minimizes air-tissue interface distortions, a common issue in extremity imaging. It’s filled with perfluorocarbon fluid, which closely matches the magnetic properties of human tissue—reducing signal inhomogeneity, enhancing contrast, and helping capture clearer wrist and forearm images with fewer artifacts.

3. What are the benefits of using the Wrist Kit for patient positioning?

The Wrist Kit provides secure, cushioned support that stabilizes the hand and wrist, helping to limit motion during long or high-resolution scans. It ensures consistent positioning for reproducible imaging results, which is especially valuable for musculoskeletal and orthopedic MRI studies.

4. How should the Sat Pad Wrist Kit be cleaned and stored?

After each use, wipe the pad with hospital-grade disinfectants such as alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium cleaners. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that can degrade the surface. Store the pad flat and dry when not in use to preserve its structure and long-term performance.

5. What are the dimensions and durability specifications?

The pad measures 15.5" L × 5" W × 0.75" H and is constructed for daily clinical use in MRI environments. Built from high-strength materials, it includes a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects, ensuring reliability and longevity in demanding imaging settings.
