MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The Sat Pad Muscular-Skeletal Kit is a specialized set of MRI accessories designed to elevate imaging quality and enhance operational efficiency. This comprehensive kit includes pads tailored for key anatomical areas such as the shoulders, knees, wrists, and ankles. By addressing air-tissue interface distortions, these pads play a crucial role in optimizing magnetic resonance imaging outcomes.

Filled with innovative perfluorocarbon fluid that mirrors the magnetic properties of human tissue, SatPads help ensure more uniform magnetic field homogeneity. This improvement not only enhances patient comfort but significantly reduces motion artifacts and minimizes the need for repeat scans, ultimately streamlining MRI workflows.

Features:

  • 4 piece positioning set
  • Reduces air-tissue interface distortions to ensure accurate MRI scans
  • Utilizes perfluorocarbon fluid to replicate the magnetic properties of human tissue
  • Improves patient comfort and minimizes movement to reduce motion artifacts during imaging
  • Constructed with robust materials designed for long-term use
  • 3-year warranty against defects

Overall Dimensions:

  • Shoulder Pad: 17"L x 8.5"W x 0.75"H
  • Knee Pad: 20.5"L x 9.95"W x 0.75"H

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Sat Pad Muscular-Skeletal Kit be used safely inside the MRI suite?

Yes. The Sat Pad Muscular-Skeletal Kit is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use in MRI Zones III and IV, including 1.5T and 3T scan environments. These pads are designed to remain stable and artifact-free during active scanning, helping ensure clean, consistent image results.

2. What is the purpose of the Sat Pad Muscular-Skeletal Kit in MRI imaging?

This kit is used to reduce air-tissue interface distortions and improve magnetic field uniformity during scans of the shoulder, knee, wrist, and ankle. Each pad contains a perfluorocarbon fluid that mimics the magnetic properties of human tissue, resulting in more accurate signal uniformity, fewer motion artifacts, and better image quality across musculoskeletal studies.

3. How do Sat Pads improve imaging compared to standard foam or gel pads?

Unlike foam or gel pads, Sat Pads use a tissue-equivalent fluid that helps eliminate signal voids and field inhomogeneities near the skin surface. This makes them especially valuable in high-resolution joint and extremity imaging, where even small distortions can affect diagnostic accuracy.

4. Are the pads reusable and easy to clean between patients?

Yes. Each pad is made with a durable, medical-grade outer layer designed for long-term use. They can be wiped clean using hospital-approved disinfectants, such as alcohol-based or quaternary ammonium cleaners. Avoid bleach or abrasive materials that may damage the surface.

5. What’s included in the Sat Pad Muscular-Skeletal Kit, and how is it used?

The kit includes four pads—one each for the shoulder, knee, wrist, and ankle—allowing for precise anatomical coverage across different scan types. Technologists place the appropriate pad directly under or around the target area to improve coil loading and reduce image artifacts, streamlining workflow and minimizing repeat scans.
