MR Unsafe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does a sonographer chair with a foot ring help reduce strain during long ultrasound exams?

A foot-ring chair gives sonographers a stable, ergonomic position so they’re not reaching, leaning, or twisting through long scans. Being able to adjust seat height and use the foot ring for support helps reduce shoulder, back, and wrist fatigue — especially during vascular, OB, and cardiac studies that require sustained positioning.

2. Is the chair height adjustable enough to work with different ultrasound machines and table setups?

Yes. This type of chair typically offers a wide height-adjustment range to match standard ultrasound tables, stretcher setups, and portable units. The foot ring helps keep posture neutral whether you’re scanning seated or partially elevated.

3. What features should a sonographer look for in a chair to support daily scanning?

Most sonographers look for smooth height adjustment, stable casters, supportive cushioning, and a foot ring that doesn’t get in the way during repositioning. A swivel seat and easy-to-clean upholstery are also important for workflow and infection control.

4. Can the chair be cleaned with standard ultrasound-safe disinfectants?

Yes. The upholstery and frame materials are designed to handle routine disinfecting with the same hospital-grade wipes and sprays used in ultrasound rooms. This helps maintain hygiene without wearing down the materials.

5. Is this chair suitable for small exam rooms or tight ultrasound suites?

It is. Chairs with foot rings are built to move easily in compact spaces and roll smoothly around the patient, the machine, and the table. The smaller footprint is helpful in OB/GYN, vascular, and mobile imaging environments where space can be limited.
