MR Unsafe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the sound system microphone be used inside the MRI suite?

This microphone is designed for use in the MRI control room or operator area, not inside the magnet room. It connects to the MRI Med sound system to allow technologists to communicate clearly with patients during scanning without interference or magnetic safety concerns. The microphone’s components are kept outside Zone IV to maintain optimal audio quality and MRI safety standards.

2. How does the sound system microphone improve communication during scans?

The microphone uses noise-cancelling technology to filter out scanner noise, so patients can hear instructions more clearly and technologists can confirm responses without repeating themselves. Its push-to-talk function and flexible gooseneck make it easy to adjust and operate during busy workflows, helping maintain clear, efficient two-way communication.

3. Is the microphone compatible with MRI Med sound systems and existing setups?

Yes. It’s built to integrate directly with MRI Med’s full line of sound systems and most standard MRI communication interfaces. The included 10-foot cord gives flexibility for mounting or console placement, and installation typically takes just a few minutes using the existing system ports.
