MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the curved design of these titanium Doyen forceps help during procedures performed near an MRI scanner?

The curved profile gives you better reach and visibility when you’re working around patient drapes, coils, or tight anatomy. It lets you approach from an angle instead of straight on, which is useful in MRI suites where positioning can be restrictive. MRI teams often choose the curved Doyen style for tasks that require controlled grasping or retraction without obstructing the field or disrupting cables near the bore.

2. Are these non-magnetic Doyen forceps appropriate for use in MRI Zones III and IV?

Yes. They’re built from non-magnetic titanium, so they behave predictably around strong magnetic fields and won’t create safety issues or image distortion. That makes them dependable for surgical prep, instrument hand-off, or any procedure where standard stainless-steel forceps would be unsafe. Their lightweight construction also helps reduce hand fatigue during longer MRI-adjacent tasks.

3. How durable are titanium Doyen forceps for high-volume MRI environments that sterilize instruments frequently?

Titanium holds up exceptionally well to repeated autoclaving and daily use. It doesn’t corrode, warp, or lose grip alignment, even in facilities that run multiple sterilization cycles per day. The 240mm length and rigid build keep the jaws stable over time, which is important when you need consistent handling and reliability from one case to the next. MRI departments favor titanium for exactly that reason—long service life with minimal maintenance.
