MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When would straight Doyen forceps be the best fit for MRI procedures or MRI-adjacent work?

Straight Doyen forceps offer predictable, steady handling when you need a direct approach to grasping or manipulating materials during prep or light procedural work. The 240mm length gives you enough reach to work comfortably around coils, drapes, or attachments without bending your wrist into awkward angles. MRI teams often choose the straight version when they want consistent, linear control—especially for tasks like organizing instruments on the patient table, handling dressings, or managing small items near the bore.

2. Are these titanium Doyen forceps reliable for use in MRI Zones III and IV?

Yes. The forceps are made from non-magnetic titanium, making them stable and predictable around strong magnetic fields. They won’t drift, pull, or interfere with imaging, which is why they’re commonly used in MRI prep areas and inside the room when stainless-steel forceps would be unsafe. Their lightweight build also reduces hand fatigue when working around the magnet for longer periods.

3. How well do these 240mm straight titanium forceps hold up to routine sterilization in a busy MRI suite?

Titanium tolerates repeated autoclaving extremely well. It doesn’t pit, corrode, or lose its alignment, even when your team runs multiple sterilization cycles per day. The straight jaws stay true over time, so you don’t see the loosening or flexing that can happen with lower-grade metals. For MRI environments that depend on durable, non-magnetic instruments, these forceps provide long-term performance with very little maintenance.
