MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can this titanium extension bar be used safely around MRI equipment?

Yes. This 4" extension bar is made from non-magnetic titanium, so it can be used safely in MRI service areas where ferromagnetic tools are not permitted. Technicians rely on it for tasks like coil hardware adjustments, cover removal, and fastener access in tight spaces around the magnet without risking magnetic attraction.

2. What makes a titanium extension bar useful for MRI machine maintenance?

Its 1/2" drive and 4-inch reach give you better access to recessed fasteners on MRI tables, coils, mounting brackets, and enclosure panels. Titanium stays lightweight while still providing solid torque, so the tool feels stable in your hand and doesn’t introduce magnetic interference during routine maintenance.

3. How does the titanium construction hold up to hospital cleaning and long-term use?

Titanium is naturally corrosion-resistant and tolerates frequent disinfecting with the chemistries commonly used in MRI suites. It won’t rust, chip, or degrade over time. For facilities that sanitize tools daily, it’s a dependable option that stays smooth and reliable through years of heavy use.
