MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can this titanium flat chisel be used safely in MRI suites and other non-magnetic zones?

Yes. This chisel is made from fully non-magnetic titanium, so it won’t be attracted to the magnet or interfere with imaging hardware. For facilities searching for a non-magnetic chisel for MRI room maintenance or equipment service, this tool is appropriate for use in areas where ferrous tools are restricted.

2. What kinds of MRI maintenance tasks is a titanium flat chisel typically used for?

Techs often use a flat chisel to remove adhesive, lift trim pieces, break loose stuck components, or access tight hardware during MRI system servicing. Its compact 5" × 7/8" size makes it especially useful for precision work around coils, covers, and alignment points where control matters. If your team needs a small, non-magnetic chisel for MRI equipment adjustments, this one fits those day-to-day tasks well.

3. How durable is a titanium flat chisel in hospital environments that require frequent cleaning?

Titanium holds up extremely well to repeated hospital disinfecting and doesn’t corrode or degrade the way coated steel tools can. The hypoallergenic material also helps in environments with strict cleanliness standards. For facilities looking for a corrosion-resistant, long-lasting chisel for MRI maintenance, titanium offers the reliability needed for constant use and cleaning.
