MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are these fine-tip Malis micro scissors suitable for work inside MRI suites and near the magnet?

Yes. These scissors are made from non-magnetic titanium, so they behave predictably in MRI Zones III and IV and don’t interfere with imaging. Facilities choose fine-tip micro scissors like these when they need precise dissection around coils, drapes, or monitoring lines without introducing ferrous risk. Their longer 220mm length also helps maintain safe working distance from the bore while still giving you steady, controlled movement.

2. What’s the advantage of using fine-tip titanium micro scissors for microsurgery and other delicate procedures?

The fine tip gives you much better control over small structures, especially when you need to separate or trim tissue without creating unnecessary trauma. Compared to standard micro scissors, the finer point makes it easier to see exactly where the blades are landing — a big benefit in neuro, ENT, and other detailed work. Because they’re titanium, the scissors stay lightweight and balanced in your hand, which helps reduce hand fatigue during longer cases.

3. How well do titanium micro scissors hold up to repeated sterilization and daily clinical use?

Titanium performs extremely well under constant autoclaving. It doesn’t corrode, dull quickly, or lose tension, even in high-throughput centers where instruments run through multiple cycles each day. The fine tips stay aligned and maintain their cutting performance over time. For MRI environments that can't afford unpredictable behavior or rapid wear, titanium offers long service life and consistent feel across cases, which keeps surgical sets reliable and reduces replacement costs.
