MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this titanium 3/8" metric socket safe to use around MRI equipment?

Yes. This socket is built from fully non-magnetic titanium, making it suitable for routine service work anywhere ferromagnetic tools would be unsafe. Techs commonly use it for coil fasteners, equipment covers, table assemblies, and small hardware adjustments without risking magnetic attraction or interference.

2. When would I choose a 3/8" titanium socket instead of a 1/2" drive?

A 3/8" drive is ideal for lighter, more precise torque applications often found on MRI coils, accessory mounts, electronic housings, and internal assemblies. It’s easier to maneuver in tighter spaces, and the titanium construction keeps the tool lightweight, strong, and fully non-magnetic, which is important when working close to the bore or sensitive components.

3. How does this titanium socket handle cleaning, wear, and long-term use in a hospital setting?

Titanium resists corrosion, pitting, and repeated disinfection, making it a dependable tool for MRI environments where cleaning protocols are strict. It won’t rust or shed debris, and the precision-machined metric sizing holds up well even with daily use, giving facilities a long-lasting, low-maintenance option for MRI service work.
