MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes titanium wire strippers useful in MRI environments where standard tools can’t be used?

Titanium doesn’t react to the magnetic field, so these wire strippers can be used safely in Zones III and IV without pull-force risks. That matters when you’re fixing connectors, sensor leads, or cable housings near the magnet. They give you the same stripping precision you’d expect from a metal tool, just without the ferromagnetic hazard.

2. Can these titanium wire strippers handle the smaller-gauge wires commonly used with MRI coils and monitoring equipment?

Yes. The cutting and stripping edges are designed to grip and remove insulation cleanly without crushing or scoring the conductor. That makes them useful for coil repair, lead maintenance, and other low-gauge wiring tasks that happen around MRI systems.

3. How well do these wire strippers hold up to routine disinfecting and day-to-day clinical use?

Titanium resists corrosion and holds its alignment well, even with regular exposure to hospital disinfectants. The hinge stays smooth, and the stripping notches keep their shape over time. They’re built to withstand repeated use in environments where tools get cleaned often and used daily.

4. Are these wire strippers only for MRI rooms, or can they be used for broader facility maintenance?

They can be used anywhere, but they’re especially valuable where magnetic safety is a concern — MRI suites, coil labs, and areas with field-sensitive electronics. Many facilities keep separate sets specifically for MRI support work to avoid accidentally bringing ferrous tools into restricted zones.

5. Do titanium wire strippers offer the same cutting strength as stainless-steel versions?

Yes. Titanium provides strong stripping and cutting force without becoming brittle or bending under routine pressure. You get reliable performance while eliminating the risk associated with ferromagnetic materials in MRI areas.
