MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Torso Block safe for use inside the MRI suite?

Yes. The Torso Block is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use in MRI Zones III and IV, including the scan room at 1.5T and 3T. It’s engineered to perform safely under normal operating conditions when used according to standard MRI procedures.

2. What is the Torso Block used for during imaging?

This block is typically used to support the dorsal and lumbar spine, helping maintain proper alignment and stability during imaging. It’s ideal for MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound exams where consistent torso positioning improves image quality and patient comfort.

3. What is the size and design of the Torso Block?

The Torso Block measures 12 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 7 inches high, offering firm yet comfortable support for patients of varying body types. Its contoured design helps reduce pressure points and makes it easy to position under or alongside the patient for stable imaging setup.

4. How does the Torso Block compare to other MRI positioning aids?

Unlike smaller wedges or general-purpose pads, the Torso Block provides targeted spine and trunk support that’s especially useful for lumbar and abdominal imaging. It’s lightweight, stable, and compatible with multiple imaging modalities, making it a reliable, all-purpose positioning aid for high-volume clinical environments.
