MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the purpose of a Vacuum Trap in an MRI environment?

A vacuum trap is a protective device that keeps fluids or debris from entering your suction regulator or central vacuum line. In MRI environments, where contamination control and equipment longevity are critical, the Precision Medical PM9000 Vacuum Safety Trap Bottle prevents liquid backflow from reaching sensitive MRI vacuum systems. Its float-and-seal shutoff design automatically stops suction when liquid levels rise too high, reducing the risk of damage, downtime, and costly maintenance.

2. Is this Vacuum Safety Trap suitable for use with MRI equipment?

Yes. This unit is engineered for MRI use, featuring non-magnetic, shatter-resistant materials that can safely remain in MRI Zones III and IV. The durable ABS construction protects the internal float mechanism and ensures reliable operation without interfering with the magnetic field. It’s compact—only 3 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall—making it ideal for MRI suites that need dependable vacuum protection without taking up valuable space.

3. How do you clean and maintain the MRI Vacuum Trap for long-term reliability?

The vacuum trap is designed for quick disassembly and cleaning, allowing staff to remove and disinfect components with standard hospital cleaning agents. The reusable design means you can maintain consistent performance without frequent replacements. Routine inspection of the float and seal ensures that shutoff functions remain accurate, helping to extend the lifespan of MRI suction systems and maintain compliance with infection control protocols.
